Dr Wycliffe Mbagaya is a Consultant in Metabolic Medicine and Laboratory Medicine with extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of complex metabolic and cardiometabolic conditions. His expertise includes lipid disorders and hypercholesterolaemia, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, metabolic diseases, prediabetes, electrolyte disorders, and the expert interpretation of blood tests.
He is widely recognised for his analytical, evidence‑based, and personalised approach, particularly in patients with unexplained symptoms, rare metabolic conditions, or inconclusive previous investigations. His interests extend to metabolic profiling, metabolic optimisation, renal stone disease, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, disorders of fat and carbohydrate metabolism, and the metabolic effects of medications and extreme diets, as well as rarer conditions such as fish odour syndrome (trimethylaminuria) and suspected heavy metal toxicity.
Dr Mbagaya is an NHS Consultant at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, where he also serves as Clinical Director for Laboratory Medicine, and has received NHS Clinical Excellence Awards for sustained clinical excellence.
He sees UK and international private patients for face‑to‑face and remote consultations at 25 Harley Street (London), Spire Bristol Hospital, and Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital. He works closely with a multidisciplinary network of cardiologists, hepatologists, dietitians, and other specialists to deliver holistic, coordinated care. He ensures that his patients receive personalised and evidence-based care.
